At a reception at Buckingham Palace to mark the annual United Nations 16 Days of activism against gender-based violence, the Queen Consort said that two of the most powerful ways to make a difference were “to remember and to listen.”

We must keep alive “the names and memories of those women who have lost their lives at the hands of a stranger, or the person who should have loved them best.”

These women can no longer speak for themselves, so we must listen to those who can.

MSP meets the team

MSP visit

On Monday, Rachael Hamilton, MSP for Ettrick, Roxburgh and Berwickshire, dropped in on Border Women’s Aid to meet the team and find out more about our work.

After the visit, she posted on social media her congratulations on our latest funding success from the National Lottery, and that our “work is making a real difference to the lives of women in the Borders who have been subjected to domestic abuse.”

Angelina Jolie criticises lack of support for conflict survivors

Actor and activist, Angelina Jolie, speaks out about governments failure to support survivors of conflict zone sexual violence.

Rape is an age-old weapon of war, sadly still rampant in today’s conflict zones. Conflict-related sexual violence has been reported in at least 18 countries in the past year alone. The UN has verified that children were the victims in nearly half of cases.

Border Women’s Aid receives National Lottery funding

Border Women’s Aid, which provides support to women who have experienced domestic abuse, is celebrating a fantastic end to 2022 with the news that the National Lottery Community Fund has extended our funding until March 2026.

This award means that, for another three years, BWA will be able to continue the 1:1 outreach support that we have provided to women across the Scottish Borders since April 2020.

I know I am not alone

I feel safer knowing BWA are supporting me

I thought domestic abuse happened to other people but I realise now that abuse can happen to anyone

You helped me realise I deserved better

I feel amazing, in control, a different person
