Feminism and BWA
Feminism is at the heart of what we do. We believe that all people are equal. Quite simply, women should have equal rights, equal pay and should not be otherwise be disadvantaged in any way because of our gender.
We adhere to a gendered analysis of domestic abuse which means we believe that domestic abuse against women, perpetrated by men, is a result of gender inequality in society.
Our women-only spaces provide a physically and emotionally safe environment that is vital to survivors’ safety and recovery, helps women reduce their isolation and enables women to develop peer support networks. Therefore, BWA is committed to providing, valuing and protecting women-only spaces across our services, which are compliant with the Equality Act.
“Feminism is the radical notion that women are people.”
Marie Shear, 1986
