16 Days of Action 2023

To mark this year's 16 DAYS of ACTION campaign, Border Women's Aid launched a charity partnership with Galashiels business ‘The Wee Souk’. Owner, Kimberley Davidson is supporting women accessing our emergency accommodation and donating a fouta (multi-purpose throw/towel) to refuge for every one sold. She wants every woman arriving at refuge to receive one as a comforting and practical item upon reaching a safe space.

The Wee Souk or the Women’s Economic Empowerment Souk opened its doors to its Galashiels store in April selling a collection of artisanal homeware and accessories, made primarily by women. The fouta is one of their bestselling products. Lightweight, fast drying and supersoft, it is a versatile 100% cotton length of material that can be used as a throw, blanket, towel or tablecloth.

Quote from Kimberley Davidson, Owner of The Wee Souk; ‘We wanted to support a local women’s organisation and we know of the incredible and important work that Border Women’s Aid does. Women leaving abusive relationships need time, safety and support to fully move on with their lives - if we can contribute even in a small way to helping women in that journey, we feel duty bound to do so. In addition to donating foutas, we hope to raise awareness and also fundraise over the coming months.’
