BWA launches Pledge Campaign

Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the start of the global UN 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. To mark this, Border Women’s Aid is excited to launch the ‘Do Your Bit to Stop Domestic Abuse in the Scottish Borders’ Pledge Campaign.
BWA is inviting people across the Borders to stand together, speak out and show their support for women and children affected by domestic abuse. Created and led by Border Women’s Aid, the campaign gives everyone a way to take part, to show they care, and to help build a community where abuse is never ignored.
As Sharon Thomas, Chair of Border Women’s Aid, says, “By signing this pledge, you are not only acknowledging the reality of domestic abuse in our community, you are actively choosing to be part of the solution.”
Catherine Maxwell Stuart, 21st Lady of Traquair, adds, “Too often women are afraid to speak up and are suffering in silence.”
John Lamont MP adds “I am proud to sign Border Women’s Aid’s pledge. No woman or girl should ever have to feel unsafe in her own home, and we must do more to tackle domestic abuse in our society. Too often, it happens behind closed doors, and in every part of our community. I will continue to do all I can in the Borders to stamp out these appalling crimes.”
This campaign is about ending that silence and showing that people across the Borders stand united for safety, respect, and change.
By signing, sharing, and supporting the pledge, you are joining a new movement led by Border Women’s Aid and built on pride, compassion, and community strength. Local voices from across the Borders, including businesses, schools, and community organisations, are already showing their support. Ann Marriott of LGBT Youth Scotland said, “No young person should ever feel they have nowhere to turn.”
Every signature, poster, and conversation will help to build a stronger network of awareness and support, ensuring women and girls know they are not alone. Domestic abuse is everyone’s business. Please sign the pledge and share it with others.
