BWA offers safe accommodation, support and information to women and their children (if any) who wish to escape domestic abuse. The refuge is a modern, clean and well equipped house. Each family has their own bedroom, although the rest of the house is shared. A drop-in service every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10am-12noon at our offices in Jedburgh offers practical and emotional support, information on legal rights, benefits and housing options.

Our Children's Service works with the children and young people who are staying, or have stayed in the refuge. An outreach service is also provided to support the women and her family practically and emotionally until she feels safe and secure after they have left the refuge and are living in their new home.

LetSBsafe provides emotional help and practical support to women who are not looking for refuge accommodation who are experiencing domestic abuse or are survivors of past abuse. Experienced project workers will give time, space and understanding to help you make informed choices about your situation. The work of LetSBsafe is based on a 'safety first' principle and purely on the needs of victims and children.

How to make a referral to Border Women's Aid

We receive referrals from social work, the Lothian & Borders Police Domestic Liaison Officer and NHS Borders.

To make a referral you can:

download a referral form. The form can be faxed to 01835 863514 or e-mailed to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

• call our main office number to speak to a member of the team. We will ask you some basic questions like: name, age, DOB and known involvement in domestic abuse situations.

We have a comprehensive assessment form that a support worker can talk through with a woman who decides she would like to use the service. As a professional you can accompany a woman to an initial meeting, as can supportive family members or friends. We try to make getting over our front door as easy as possible. Sometimes that means we can come out to a woman who can't get to the office.

If a woman you are worried about has difficulty leaving the house, or receiving mail, we can arrange to meet at a doctor's surgery or another appointment and provide support. If you have concerns about a woman, you might find it useful to give us a call and ask a few questions. We are more than happy to help in any way that we can, so don't hesitate to pick up the phone.
